Typhus is a rare disease in relation to commonly taken journeys abroad. Possibility of infection is most common in areas where the hygienic conditions are affected as a result of war, natural disasters and poverty.
The onset of the disease is most common ten to twenty days after infection with symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract (diarrhoea, etc.) and other symptoms if the disease is spread to the blood (high fever, eruption of the skin and confusion).
Vaccination is recommended for everyone travelling to areas where there is a prevalence of typhus.
