Days without drinking alcohol is a good idea so that the body can eliminate all waste products from the alcohol and repair any minor damage caused by the alcohol consumption.
Remember that most alcoholic drinks contain a large amount of calories. If you are trying to lose weight or maintain your weight at a stable level, a reduction in your alcohol consumption will help you maintain your ideal weight.
Health and alcohol
Alcohol consumption has both positive and negative consequences to your health. The alcohol is good for the cholesterol level as it increases the level of good HDL cholesterol in your blood.
If you drink more than the recommended maximum, your health may be negatively affected. Some effects will be less serious such as trouble sleeping and constant fatigue. Other more serious consequences are:
- reduced fertility
- increased risk of ulcer
- deteriorated immune system
- increased blood pressure
- increased risk of stroke and brain damage
- increased risk of liver damage
- increased risk of cancer of the mouth and throat
- increased risk of diabetes
- increased risk of inflammation of the pancreas
